Sustainable & Organic Farming Initiative
Good food comes from a healthy system – land that is nurtured, people who are cared for, and a process that respects everyone involved. Our initiative is dedicated to the people who grow our food, making sure that they have access to opportunity, and the education and equipment they need to grow efficiently and sustainably.

Since 2010, truRoots® has worked with the Foundation for the Development of Agricultural Technology in the Valleys (FTDA Valles), a non-profit, private organization and a leader in the agricultural sector in Bolivia, to support the sustainability efforts of indigenous Bolivian farmers and communities.
Our funding helped to introduce technologies and practices, which promote sustainable farming and production systems, to over 200 farmers in Bolivia.
As a result, farm yields have doubled since 2011 and farmers’ incomes are $1,600 higher on average.
Our continued commitment (2015/2016 Proposal):
- Develop partnerships with new farmers and municipalities to undertake initiatives that promote 100% traceable organic farming and improve the quality of life of Bolivian quinoa growers’ families.
- Expansion of sustainable organic quinoa production by providing education and training to new and existing farmers for land preparation, sowing & fertilization, irrigation, integrated pest & disease management, organic certification processes and organic farming techniques.
- Commitment to support organic practices and sustainable incomes for at least 50 new farmers.
- Continue to develop technical capabilities and support farmers transitioning to organic farming practices.
